Butchers overcome Helsinki Wolverines by a inch

Butchers started season in Vaahteraliiga (Maple league) against Helsinki Wolverines. Both of these teams plays also in EFL-league and this game was played with same rules.

Both teams started game nervously and defences ruled the field. Wolverines got good offensive start position with great punting and Butchers lost their territory. Wolverines got their first points in late first quarter, with a good offensive passes witch lead Wolverines up to Butchers 2 yard line. RB Andrei Kipahti run 2 yard TD. Extra point were blocked and Wolverines led 6-0.

Second quorter. Both teams gets one offense turn, but no first downs. Then Butchers has in their offensive turn 4. and inches to go. Butchers desides to punt, but this time punt was blocked by Wolverines LB Kalle Dasilva and he scored another TD. Wolverines tried to play 2 extra points, because the first extra point was blocked. Butchers defence able to stop Wolverines running play right up the starting line. Wolverines led 12-0.
In the end of second quorter Butchers on their offense turn at Wolverines 37 yardline. 4. and 14 to go and 8 seconds in play clock, Butchers tried to go deep in Wolverines goal. This time Wolverines intercepted the ball, but no harm done. Time was runned out. Halftime.

Second half, third quarter. Wolverines started a long offensive play in their own 21 yardline up to Butchers 27 yardline. Mostly Wolverines passes was long and wide receivers with talent got those long passes within. Then Butchers closed the doors and Wolverines offense stopped. In Butchers 29 yardline 4. and 12 to go Wolverines tried field goal but failed.
Butchers got it own chance to score when Butchers QB Justin McKenzie found with long pass WR Matti Lahti. Unfortunetily Mattis foot was outside by a inche and Butchers didn't get the TD. Then Wolverines defended well in very narrow distance og the goalline (Wolverine 4 yardline) and prevent the TD.
End of the third quarter QB Justin McKenzie found WR Ville Palikainen with over 40 yard pass.

Fourth quarter. Butchers get real close to Wolverines goalline. Then McKenzies pass found Ville Kurvinen in the endzone with 9 yard passgame. Sami Mikkonen put the extra point in and Butchers get in to the game with 12-7.
Wolverines get a good spirit offensive turn in middle of fourth quarter. Wolverines offense managed to go forward with great passes and with Butchers penalty. In no time Wolverines was in Butchers 19 yardline. Also this time Butchers defense stopped Wolverines and they tried to go with field goal. This time K Kari Hytönen managed and Wolverines led 15-7.
Butchers was it's back against the wall. It had to go with TD + 2 point extrapoint. QB McKenzie lead the way to run over 40 yard run between mixed up Wolverines defence. Then long throw to WR Ville Palikainen and suddenly Butchers was only 8 yards to Wolverines endzone. Then Wolverines defense makes it's biggest fails. WR Pekka Piminäinen was all alone in corner of endzone. Justin McKenzie passes the ball to Pekka and TD. In the extra point McKenzie runs with ball in the right corner of endzone and with great blocks made his way. Regular time Wolverines 15 – Butchers 15.

Overtime. Overtime was tight. In the first turns both team got passes to intercepted. Second turn Wolverines starts nice with great pass and first down in Butchers 6 yardline. Then Wolverines tried 3 times to run over Butchers defense but not succeed. Then Wolverines give a shot to field goal. This time K Kari Hytönen didn't make it and offense turn to Butchers.
This time Butchers managed to get close range to Wolverines endzone. After two runs by QB McKenzie Butcher were at 4 yards away from endzone. Situation 4. and goal at 4 yardline Sami "goldshoe" Mikkonen put field goal thru goalposts and Butchers won tight game by 15-18 (home team first).
